Reinterpreting Islamic Texts And Traditions for Social Reform In The Muslim World: The Case Of Women And Youth In Morocco
May 2005 | This Institute event featured two afternoon panels on the use of Islamic texts and traditions to advance social reforms in Morocco. Leading Moroccan scholars and experts debated the reform of the family code and the revision of high school curriculum. This program highlighted the Institute's work and commitment too peaceful and far-reaching reform in the Muslim World. It provided an opportunity for U.S. policymakers to have firsthand accounts on the potential and limits of using Islamic tradition to reform Muslim societies.
